Lazi is the romanized pronunciation of the Chinese word 辣子, a playful term often associated with a bold or “spicy” girl.
But for us, being “spicy” is not a label — it is a kind of confidence.
A confidence that allows softness and strength to exist together.
A confidence that embraces tenderness, strangeness, playfulness, vulnerability, and individuality without needing to fit into anyone else’s definition.
____
Lazi began in the winter of 2018, born from the very first crochet bikini made as a playful act of rebellion against a mother who knitted socks. What started as a single piece slowly unfolded into a journey of custom crochet garments and wearable creations.
During the pandemic in 2020, crochet teaching unexpectedly became another important part of the brand. Most days are spent quietly crocheting in a sunlit room, occasionally appearing at markets or drifting through interesting events and gatherings.
Crochet often feels like a gentle tug-of-war against modern life.
How do we create something delicate in an era obsessed with speed?
How do we carve out time from busy lives to experience a kind of romance that can only exist through patience and slow making?
Over time, crochet became more than crochet itself.
Yarn may appear soft and quiet, yet the things woven from it can hold, support, and gently catch anyone in need of comfort or protection.
Through every piece, Lazi hopes to carry a sense of confidence and strength — whether tender, playful, bold, strange, or beautifully unconventional. As long as our hands continue making, every version of ourselves deserves to exist exactly as it is.
